Camera Lens Tool
The Camera Lens Tool provides information on camera models, extension tubes, and lens combinations that match your desired shooting conditions.
The shooting condition settings are as follows:
- Width [mm], Height [mm] (Required)
- Working Distance* [mm], Resolution of target FOV [mm / pixel] (Optional)
- Working distance is the distance from the tip of the lens to the workpiece.
- The type of camera, lens, and extension tube (Optional)
Setting Shooting Conditions
Set the shooting conditions as shown in the table below. Be sure to enter the parameters in the red frame, and enter other parameters as necessary. You can narrow down the choices. After the setting, click the [Calculate] button to get the result of combination.
Shooting Condition | Description |
---|---|
Width | Enter the desired FOV width. (Required) |
Height | Enter the desired FOV height. (Required) |
Working Distance | Enter the desired working distance*. (Optional) If you omit input, the working distance required to meet your desired FOV will be automatically calculated. * Working distance is the distance from the tip of the lens to the workpiece. |
Resolution | Enter the desired resolution. (Optional) Select a resolution that is equal to or finer than the specified resolution. If you omit input, the resolution required to meet your desired FOV will be automatically calculated. |
Camera | Select to specify the camera type. (Optional) If you choose [Non Select], camera selection will be selected automatically. |
Lens | Select to specify the lens type. (Optional) If you choose [Non Select], lens selection will be selected automatically. |
Extension Tube | Select to specify the extension tube. (Optional) If you choose [Non Select], extension tube will be selected automatically. If you choose [Anysize], the length entered in [Tube Length] below will be used. |
Tube Length | This is the length of the extension tube. |
Type | Select the camera type. |
Include USB camera | USB cameras can be included in the search only when compact vision is selected. If you want to search only for GigE cameras, uncheck it. |
Only display products in store | You can search exclusively for products that are in store. If you also want to search for products that are not in store, uncheck the checkbox. |
Calculate | Selects the camera, lens, and extension tube according to the parameter settings. |
KEY POINTS
- Set the FOV size to be larger than the size of the workpiece, taking into account the size of the workpiece and variations in installation position.
- The hardware to be selected is only those listed in the "Vision Guide 8.0 Hardware & Setup" manual. For other general sensors and lenses with hardware similar in size and focal length, the actual optical values may differ from the values output in the selection results.
- Optical system selection results such as FOV and working distance are calculated values based on theoretical values. Due to lens specifications and individual variations, there may be differences between the actual FOV and the selection results. Additionally, lenses with short focal lengths may cause distortion (lens distortion) at the periphery of the field of view, so conduct experiments with a prototype. Also, since errors in the working distance occur due to variations in the optical system, etc., use a mechanism that allows you to adjust the position of the camera even after it is installed.
- When setting FOV, set the value with a margin that takes into account not the size of the workpiece but also variations in workpiece installation.
Result
The selection results are sorted in the list in order of closestness to the input parameter. If you check the checkbox in the list, the details of the selection results in the list will be displayed at the top.
The meaning of the output parameters is the same as that of the input. The following is what is displayed in the output only. If no suggestions are found, a message will be displayed. Change the parameters and select again.
Result | Description |
---|---|
Focal Length | Lens focal length |
DOF | The top row shows the depth of field when the lens aperture is wide open. The bottom row shows the depth of field when the aperture is closed to the maximum. |
Save | The combination of camera model, extension tube, and lens that you check in the list will be reflected in the camera settings. |
KEY POINTS
If there are many types of setting parameters, the selection conditions may become strict and selection results may not be found. In that case, it may be easier to find it by entering only the FOV size and determining the selection conditions from the output selection results.
